Abstract

DFT is a well-known and accepted concept for digital circuit design. Many different techniques are practiced in the industry today, some are “correct by construction,” yet many are of the “make it work” variety. In the case of mixed-signal or analog circuit design, of what little DFT that is practiced, they have all been in the “make it work” category. Simply put, each and every DFT technique used for mixed-signal circuits must be custom designed for the application at hand. It remains to be seen whether analog synthesis can alleviate some of the design burden. CAD for analog synthesis has improved significantly in the past few years and it may be the perfect medium in which to promote a mixed-signal DFT methodology.
