Abstract

This article aims to understand the gender experiences and the construction of femininities in women weightlifters. The empirical field was conducted with a team of this modality. The observation of training sessions and individual interviews conducted with eight athletes revealed a dichotomous gender view in their discourse. Their bodies bring the sports practice brands, which reflect on muscle volume and strength. Such transformations make their bodies dissident and abject, and their sexuality distrust. As far as they subvert the expectations of a standardized femininity, these women invite us to reflect on the construction of plural femininities in sports.
