Abstract

“If I donate money to help geoscience students, I'll donate to my alma mater.” This is the philosophy that many fellow SEG colleagues have voiced concerning this very personal issue. In fact, a few years back, the alumni office from my (FJH) alma mater, the Colorado School of Mines, visited me during a fund-raising drive. After the presentation, I said, “It's too bad you don't have a funding effort for the old Integral Club where I spent so many hours playing pool!”. Yo u guessed it… they pulled out a brochure which stated that for a substantial donation, the new Student Union wing that housed the pool tables could be named after me.
