Abstract

ABSTRACT The dominant role of multinational corporations has strongly influenced the geography of the petrochemical industry in the United Kingdom. Certain oil companies have encouraged development of integrated oil refinery/ petrochemical complexes. Despite similar motivations, these companies have adopted different approaches in their moves from oil refining into petrochemical manufacture. These differences have affected the position of the complexes, both functionally and geographically, at local, national, and international scales, within the corporate systems to which they belong.
