Abstract

Li, Y. and Fu, X.F., 2020. Corporate social responsibility and capital market regulation: Empirical evidence from coastal regions of China. In: Qiu, Y.; Zhu, H., and Fang, X. (eds.), Current Advancements in Marine and Coastal Research for Technological and Sociological Applications. Journal of Coastal Research, Special Issue No. 107, pp. 413-418. Coconut Creek (Florida), ISSN 0749-0208.This study investigates whether corporate social responsibility (CSR) mitigates or contributes to the corporate capital market regulation. We use annual report inquiry letters and conducted the survey among the listed companies in coast regions of China. We find a significantly negative association between firms' CSR and the probability of receiving an annual report inquiry letter. Our study will be useful to firms and shareholders who want to reduce business risks and to investors who want to use inquiry letter information to make decisions.
