Abstract

Background: The 2019 Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is showing a major impact on health systems and communities around the world. COVID-19 is spreading massively, causing many clinical manifestations. Vulnerable groups need to be aware of this virus, including pregnant women. Several studies have found that pregnant women are a group at high risk for its severity, distinguishing specific signs of COVID-19, obstetric complications, and the potential for intrauterine vertical transmission.
Objective: This study aims to determine the clinical signs and symptoms, risks and impacts of COVID-19 on pregnancy.
Methods: This study uses a systematic review method. Sources of literature data were obtained from SpringerLink, Science Direct, ProQuest, and Pubmed which were taken from 2020-2021.
Results: Based on the 11 articles analyzed, it shows that the signs and symptoms caused by pregnant women with COVID-19 are similar to those of non-pregnant women or adults in general. Studies that have been conducted, there is currently no evidence of vertical transmission from mother to fetus.
Conclusion: Pregnant women are a group at risk for health problems, especially infections. The clinical manifestations of pregnant women with COVID-19 are similar to those of adult patients in general. Until now, a number of studies that have been conducted to identify the presence of vertical transmission from mother to fetus taken from samples such as vaginal secretions, cord blood, placenta, serum, anal swabs, and breast milk have shown negative results. There is a need for observation of pregnant women with COVID-19 and prevention of neonatal infection.
