Abstract

Coronary thermography is a safe and feasible method that has been established as a tool for functional evaluation of atherosclerotic plaques and identification of hot plaques that are inflamed and can give rise to adverse clinical effects in the future. This method is currently used as an investigational tool, and large-scale prospective natural history studies (such as VIP-1 and VIP-2), followed by appropriate clinical trials, are needed to determine its possible role in screening and treatment of subjects at high risk of coronary artery events.
