Abstract

Progress in the study and modelling of the corona phenomena depends on the availability of experimental techniques. In this paper an experimental method based on acoustic emission techniques for detection of corona discharge on the surfaces of the insulators is presented. Analysis of the received signal is carried out in the time domain and the possibility of using such a system in a high-voltage substation for detecting corona on the surfaces of insulators and bushings is discussed.
