Abstract

This chapter highlights the valuable partnership between Cornell University and the Peace Corps. The Peace Corps aims to help people of interested countries meet the need for trained men and women, while also helping people from host countries better understand people from the United States, and vice versa. In 1976, International Programs in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) established an on-campus Peace Corps student representative position to build a stronger link between land-grant colleges and the Peace Corps. The chapter examines the impact of combining a Cornell learning experience with hands-on Peace Corps service. The Cornell–Peace Corps collaboration proved to be a mutually beneficial partnership benefitting local communities around the world, Peace Corps volunteers, the United States, and the university community.
