Abstract

AbstractPlacido topographers are widely used in ophthalmology and optometry for a measurement of corneal surface topography. With an extremely high resolution this technology could measure mean curvature and astigmatism, mapping a manual keratometer with SimK values, as well as asphericity. In addition, corneal irregularities and scars as well as (early) forms of ectatic diseases (e.g. keratoconus, keratoglobus or PMD) could be identified as long as the precorneal tear film is intact. In this talk we give an overview on the capabilities as well as the drawbacks of this imaging technique and dedicated analysis and screening indices which assist the examiner in identifying corneal surface pathologies or diseases.
