Abstract
Neurohistologic study of the cornea of an eye that had to be removed because of much discomfort four years following evisceration and implantation of a tantalum ball, surprisingly, revealed the presence of normal appearing corneal nerve bundles composed of all three nerve fiber types found in the normal human cornea. The fact that the perichoroidal and ciliary nerve plexus were totally absent in this eye indicates that the corneal nerves certainly may not entirely be derived from the ciliary nerves, and this also gives support to some presently less popular views of the origin of the corneal nerves.
