Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not the measurement of intraocular pressure in an eye with a corneal graft resulted in a significantly different value using applanation versus Schiotz tonometry. Pertinent data were collected from a series of cases in which unilateral keratoplasty was performed for a variety of corneal diseases, such as trauma, ulcers, infections, familial dystrophies, Fuchs' dystrophies, and keratoconus. Applanation and Schiotz tonometry was performed on both eyes using the intact, non-operated eye as a control for each specific patient. Consideration was given to factors which are known to cause alterations in ocular rigidity in order to eliminate such patients from this series.
