Abstract

Eight fungicidal preparations were tested as pre-planting corm treatments for the control of Curvularia rot of gladiolus corms in artificially infested field plots at Ottawa in 1957 and 1958. The thiram preparations Delsan A-D, Arasan SF-M, and Arasan SF-X applied as dusts gave the best control of the disease. These dusts significantly decreased the percentage of plants affected with Curvularia corm rot during both seasons. They also significantly increased stand, total corm yield, and number of rot-free corms harvested in 1957 but these benefits could not be shown statistically in 1958. Arasan SF-M and Arasan SF-X delayed flowering 4–5 days in both years and Delsan A-D delayed emergence 6 days and flowering 5 days in 1957. Arasan used as a dust and Dowicide B, Emmi, mercuric chloride, and Ortho Seed Guard Wettable used as soaks did not give satisfactory control of the corm rot.
