Abstract

Background: Corin is a recently isolated type II transmembrane serine protease with several conserved functional domains. Studies have shown corin protein expression and localization in the human heart. Work has demonstrated that corin acts as a pro-atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP)–converting enzyme. These data, along with our interest in the natriuretic peptide system, led us to investigate in a more cell type specific manner, expression of corin in the human heart. Methods: Corin expression was assessed using two sets of corin primers in mRNA isolated from the following cell types: Human aortic endothelial cells (HAEC), Human cardiac microvascular endothelial cells (HCMEC) and Human cardiac fibroblasts (HCF).
