Abstract

Due to the stress-sensitive characteristics of loss and magnetostrictive strain in the silicon steel sheets, it is significant to take the effect of mechanical stress on loss and noise of laminated iron cores in the permanent magnet linear motors (PMLMs). In this paper, the coupled behavior of magnetic and mechanical stress in an electrical steel sheet are measured and the rate-dependency between them is demonstrated. The stress dependency of loss is evaluated by the Steinmetz formula with variable coefficients, and the magnetostricive strain generated by both magnetic field and applied stress is presented. Based on these models, a 2-D numerical simulation of magnetic field and displacement field in a PMLMs is implemented and the comparison of iron loss and deformation with and without taking the mechanical stress into account is investigated.
