Abstract

Pakistan Research Reactor-1 (PARR-1) is a major facility for research and isotope production at the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH). The 5 MW materials test reactor (MTR) type swimming pool research reactor achieved criticality in 1965. The reactor was fueled with 93 percent highly enriched uranium (HEU) fuel, and moderated and cooled by light water. A graphite thermal column at one side of the core served as reflector.
