Abstract
We analyze how the introduction of digital technologies for storing and distributing information affects the incentives to enforce copyrights protection. We first characterize the conditions under which the change from non-digital to digital distribu- tion may enhance or reduce profits. Secondly, we analyze how profits are changed by the introduction of peer-to-peer digital distribution channels via the Internet. Lastly, we discuss some potential conflicts of interest among information creators, publishers, and attorneys. (JEL L86, O34)
