Abstract

Hamilton's conclusion (ibid., v. 62, p. 885-904, 1967) that the native copper mineralization in sandstone is diagenetic does not take into account its spatial relationship to the White Pine fault. Furthermore, bitumen, with whose distribution the native copper correlates very closely, occurs in faults and cracks (i.e., it is post-deformation, at least in part) and also in the interstices of the sandstone in a manner reminiscent of typical heavy oil concentrations in sandstone. Bleaching associated with the copper may also be structurally controlled and post-date diagenesis.
