Abstract
A novel adsorbent derived from copper-doped alumina (Cu-Al2O3) and diatomaceous was prepared for removing Cr(VI) from water. The obtained adsorbent was characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) techniques. The results show that copper-doped alumina nano powders were compounded successfully into the pores of diatomite. Nano Cu-Al2O3 powders is beneficial to improve the adsorption performance of diatomite. The adsorption process of Cr(VI) presents mainly chemical adsorption, and the adsorption/desorption isotherms are in line with type II adsorption isotherms and H3. The hysteresis loop shows that the modified diatomite (MDM) and Cu-Al2O3@diatomite (CAOD) are both mesoporous materials. Moreover, prepared adsorbent can be washed with NaOH solution and exhibits a good desorption effect. CAOD exhibits a good application prospect in the removal of Cr (VI) from wastewater.
