Abstract

p-Nitrophenylmaleimide as an electrophilic monomer was copolymerized in the absence of initiator under various experimental conditions with 2-methyl-2-oxazoline and 2-ethyl-2-oxazoline as nucleophilic monomers. The copolymers were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. The copolymer compositions were determined by elemental analyses and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Almost all copolymers are statistical; they are rich in the maleimide units for the ETOX/ p-NO 2PhMI system and rich in oxazoline units for the MOX/ p-NO 2PhMI system.
