Abstract

AbstractResults are presented on copolymerization of methyl vinyl ketone with ethylene, propylene, isobutylene, styrene, vinyl chloride, and dienes like 1‐vinylcyclohexene‐(2) and butadiene. The ketone was complexed with ethyl‐ and methylaluminium compounds, aluminium chloride, and aluminium bromide. With ethyl‐ or methylaluminium dichloride as complexant, equimolar copolymers of methyl vinyl ketone and propylene, isobutylene, vinyl chloride, and butadiene were obtained in toluene solutions at −78°C. The other methyl and ethylaluminium compounds used, aluminium chloride, and aluminium bromide proved to be inactive in the copolymerization of the ketone and the monomers mentioned above.
