Abstract
The copolymerization of α-olefins with polar olefinic monomers is one of the big challenges in polymer chemistry today. Although substantial progress was achieved during the past years, especially early transition metal complexes still face fast deactivation reactions in the presence of polar functionalities. Herein we present an article of the most important polymerization techniques and catalyst systems that are able to copolymerize polar monomers and α-olefins. This includes early as well as late transition metal catalysts, protection group techniques, and weakly coordinating functionalized olefins.
