Abstract

The paper reports that according to Munich Re Topics Geo the last years brokes all negative records. Natural catastrophes have never been so expensive for the world’s economies or for the insurance industry. It was also one of the deadliest years of recent decades. The paper explains this dramatic increase of the number and proportions of natural disasters by sharpening the climatic changes. Indeed, last two years were dominated by windstorms that brought heavy rains. In very short time large amount of water was released and fell down. Violent floods often associated with landslides followed. Sometimes the moisten soil was easily dislocated by avalanches or earthquakes. The advanced technology that nowadays governs the world globalization proved powerless in facing the natural disasters. This is why UNESCO organized for the end of this year in Paris a seminar on the Higher Education and Research. Before initiating any action the true causes of natural disasters as well as their trends should be well known. Then the most appropriate measures of prevention should be provided. The time is too short and the cost too high for full scale experiments. Particularly, the paper suggests using biological methods for preventing dislocations of the land and soils structures. They are also non-polluted and easily to be immediately applied on the basis of the hazard maps.
