Abstract

A developmental approach to mobilizing the energies of the elderly is presented. The confrontation of opposites—the aging self versus the social valuation of aging—is discussed as a means of freeing unused energies. Varying combinations and intermixtures of opposite values are hypothesized. Clinical and preventive applications are suggested.
