Abstract

After two weeks of negotiations, the 196 states meeting in Katowice, Poland, closed COP24. No firm decision was taken during this Cop concerning the procedure to increase commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to specify the conditions for climate finance intended for developing countries. Indeed, so far, the funds mobilized remain insufficient and are mainly directed towards the objective of mitigation, neglecting the aspect of adaptation. In addition, the withdrawal of the USA from climate negotiations from 2020 adds a difficulty additional to the task of collecting the promised sum. Algeria has underlined its commitment to fight climate change through ambitious commitments (Paris Climate Agreement). Algeria intends to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 7 to 22% by 2030 through actions aimed at achieving an energy transition and economic diversification based in particular on the national program of renewable energies and energy efficiency.
