Abstract

Polymeric coordination complexes of Ni(II), Co(II), and Cu(II) have been prepared from the ligands N, N′- bis-(salicylidene)-3,3′- bis(methylthio) benzidine (SMB) and N, N′-[ bis(salicylidene)]- bis( o-methylthioaniline) (BSA) and characterized in terms of their magnetic, spectral, and analytical properties. The monomeric analogs of these complexes have been prepared from the ligands N-salicylidene- o-methylthioaniline (SMA) and N-( o-hydroxyacetophenylidene)- o-methylthioaniline (HMA) and similarly characterized. The Pd(II) complexes of these ligands have been prepared and have the formulas Pd(SMA or HMA)Cl and Pd 2 (SMB or BSA)Cl 2 but no Pd(II) polymeric complexes were isolated. A low spin Co(II) complex was prepared having the formula Co(SMB) 2 and is thought to be approximately square planar.
