Abstract

In this extensive study, four coordination polymers, [Cu(μ4-dmg)(μ-pbix)0.5]n(1), {[Cu(μ-dmg)(μ-pbix)]∙2H2O}n(2), {[Zn2(μ-dmg)(μ-SO4)(μ-pbix)2]∙H2O}n(3) and {[Cd(μ-dmg)(H2O)(μ-pbix)]·H2O}n(4) were synthesized with hydrothermal methods by using 3,3-dimethylglutarate (dmg) and 1,4-bis(imidazol-1ylmethyl)benzene (pbix). The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Single crystal X-ray results demonstrated that complex 1 displayed a 2D network. In the synthesis of 2, Cu(CH3COO)2⋅H2O was used instead of Cu(NO3)2⋅3H2O and a structurally different complex 2 was obtained with a 2-fold interpenetrated 3D framework (cds topology). Complexes 3 and 4 were interpenetrated with each other to form 3D+3D→3D frameworks with bbe-3,4-Cmmm and cds topologies, respectively. The dmg ligand exhibited a new coordination mode, μ-η1:η1:η0:η1. Thermal behaviors, photoluminescence and topological properties of the complexes were also investigated.
