Abstract
This paper demonstrated an efficient approach for designing a coordinated PSS and the Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) based supplementary damping controller for damping low frequency oscillations in a single-machine infinite-bus (SMIB) power system considering the various system transmission time delays. Power system stabilizer (PSS) are used in the power system to reduce the low frequency oscillation but use of PSS is insufficient in some abnormal fault condition. To overcome such situation a coordinated structure of PSS and a FACT based damping controller is used and the design problem associated with the coordinated controller is considered to as an optimization problem. The heuristic algorithms like Genetic algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA) are employed to optimize the coordinated structure parameters. The proposed work basically compares the three algorithms for the design of SSSC based coordinated damping controller. The Simulation results are presented over some abnormal operating and loading condition. This process will analyze the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed design approach.
