Abstract

Multi-Source converters used as an option to supply power to traction motor using multiple energy storage systems. This converter eliminates the use of dc/dc converter thereby reducing the bulky magnetic and improving overall efficiency of the system. Due to the use of multiple energy storage sources, power density is also increased. This article discusses the smooth control of traction motor supplied through multi-source converter using space vector modulation technique. The two batteries used in the system are considered as batteries, one of which has higher voltage than other. The battery with the higher voltage is main battery, directly connected to the motor while other battery is used to supply auxiliary loads in the EV. The working of multi-source converter using variable modulation index during running of motor is discussed and verified in MATALB/Simulink environment. Scale down experimental setup is used to verify the operation of motor using two battery system.
