Abstract

Aim Determine which children coming for ultrasound are un-cooperative. Materials and Methods Details of children coming for paediatric ultrasound during office hours from June to August 2018 were captured in this project. Children's demographics and whether they were co-operative or un-cooperative during the scan were recorded. Results Two hundred children consisting of 107 males and 93 females, ranging from 2 days old to 20 years old were documented. There were 115 Chinese, 46 Malays, and 19 Indians, the rest of foreign nationality. There were 63 inpatients and 137 outpatients. Among the 200 patients, 130 were co-operative and 70 were un-cooperative during the scan. The 130 children who were co-operative throughout the scan had an average age of 7 years 5 months old (median age of 7 years 11 months old) with an average scan time of 14.18 minutes (median 11 minutes). There were 67 males (51.54%) and 63 females (48.46%). The 70 children who were un-cooperative during the scan were statistically younger (p In the un-cooperative group, 36 children (51.43%) were initially co-operative but became un-cooperative (average age 1 year 3 months, median 4 months), 24 children (34.29%) were un-cooperative throughout the scan (average age 1 year 4 months, median age 11 months). Conclusion Younger children are more un-cooperative during ultrasound scans.
