Abstract

A study of the influence of a nonlinear viscoelastic medium upon the frequency of cooperative modes in such a medium is presented. The form of the stress tensor is derived by using the well-known Rivlin-Green techniques and the corrected dispersion relations are derived by an application of a perturbation technique upon the set of linearized hydrodynamic equations and a nonlinear viscoelastic stress tensor. The results are applied to glycerol and the possible effects of nonlinearities displayed.
