Abstract

A framework for concurrent planning of products and design of Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMSs) is presented. The system based on a blackboard architecture integrates different modelling tools (Analytic, Mathematical, Simulation) and Hybrid Expert Systems aiming cooperative design to assist the designer in his task. Semantic Data Models represent product, process planning, and facility knowledge to provide a dynamic and accessible data structure for design cycle information needs.
