Abstract

This paper examines relations between the Philippines and US in the context of GWOT which was considered as a central feature of US foreign policy under the Bush administration. The first part shows the convergence in the goals and strategies of the two countries that enabled the partnership on counterterrorism to foster. The second part highlights the efforts of the Arroyo administration to address terrorism and the significant contributions of the US to the counterterrorism campaign. The discussion seeks to identify the gains and setbacks of President Arroyo’s move to support the GWOT strategy. The last part explores recent developments on counterterrorism cooperation between the two countries.
