Abstract

The present paper aims to analyze the relationship between two of the main important economic blocks nowadays, MERCOSUR and the European Union, since their creations until the present moment, having as a special point of interest for us the 1990s when the two continents began their relations as economic blocs. For the development of this study we used a system of scientific methodology based on qualitative analysis of official documents and scientific articles on the topic of study, being central for our understanding the issue of conjuncture factor as a major influence on the progress of the negotiations so far. For we endorse this study, we used as a reference point the traditional theories of international relations, which have arisen in a parallel period to international economic blocs, being they the Liberalism, Realism, the International Society or English School, and the more contemporary, the International Political Economy. In this way, this study intends to contribute to the areas of international relations, political science and management, through the understanding that this initiative of integration between two continents that are already living a process of regional integration, through the creation of a birregional free trade zone, is observed as an unprecedented movement, and once achieved is capable of changing the whole dynamic of both trade and international policy in the world.
