Abstract

The current work presents an exhaustively study on cooling rate-dependent yield behavior of Cu50Zr50 (at%) and Ni56Nb44metallic glass (MG) wires fabricated by a melt-extraction technique. After tension test, based on the measurement of the fracture angle, the yield behavior of the MG wires with different diameters is analyzed. Based on the Mohr-Columb criterion, the cohesion strength of the MG wires is evaluated. According to the free volume model, the cohesion strength of the MG wires is quantitatively predicted. The correlation between the yield behavior and the quantity of free volume in the glassy phase is elucidated.
