Abstract

The jet form is closely related to the cooling strength and uniformity of steel tubes, which is the first consideration in the design of quenching equipment. A reasonable choice of jet form will improve product quality and reduce production costs. In this study, the heat transfer behavior of different jet forms is discussed. Two jet forms are considered: planar jet and annular jet. Besides, the size of the steel tube is also an important variable in this simulation. The remaining parameters are fixed values. The axial and circumferential temperature distributions of the steel tube were obtained. The results showed that the annular jet has better performance on cooling intensity and cooling uniformity. The cooling performance of the two jet forms are almost the same when the steel tube size is smaller than 50 mm. As the planar jet quenching equipment is simple to manufacture, low in cost, and convenient in site application, so the planar jet can be considered when the diameter is small.
