Abstract

Kinematic wave equations for a simple watershed model are cast in the form of a convolution integral. Two special cases, flow across a plane rectangular surface and flow with a linear stage-discharge relation, are developed in detail. These solutions are used to show the relationship between the kinematic wave methods and the Clark unit hydrograph, and to explore the source of non-linearity in convolution approaches to rainfall-runoff modeling.
