CONVISO® SMART – a new solution to control monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous weeds in ALStolerant sugar beets

Abstract

CONVISO SMART ist ein neuartiges System zur Kontrolle von Ungrasern und Unkrautern in ALS-Inhibitortoleranten Zuckerruben. Das CONVISO SMART System basiert auf klassisch gezuchteten ALS-Inhibitortoleranten Zuckerrubensorten und dem Komplementarherbizid CONVISO. CONVISO ist eine Kombination aus den bekannten Wirkstoffen Foramsulfuron und Thiencarbazone-methyl. Beide Wirkstoffe gehoren zu Gruppe der ALS-Hemmer. Wahrend Foramsulfuron vorwiegend blattaktiv ist, wirkt Thiencarbazone-methyl sowohl uber das Blatt als auch uber den Boden. Das Produkt ist als olige Dispersion (OD) formuliert. Die Zulassung des Produktes wurde mit einer Aufwandmenge von 1,0 L/ha als Einfachbehandlung und als Splittingbehandlung mit 2 x 0,5 L/ha fur den Einsatz in ALS-Inhibitor-toleranten Zuckerruben beantragt. Der Behandlungszeitraum liegt im Nachauflauf zwischen dem 1-Blatt und 4-Blattstadium der Unkrauter, speziell von Chenopodium album sowie dem 2-Blatt- und 8-Blattstadium der Kultur. Die Einfuhrung des Systems in Deutschland ist fur das Jahr 2018 geplant. Das Wirkungsspektrum umfasst die wirtschaftlich wichtigsten Ungraser- und Unkrautarten, inklusive Polygonum - und Chenopodium -Arten, die in Zuckerruben vorkommen. Zudem werden erfolgreich Problemunkrauter (wie z.B. Mercurialis annua und Aethusa cynapium ) bekampft, die mit den bisherigen Standardmischungen nicht ausreichend kontrolliert werden konnen und oftmals den Zusatz von weiteren Herbiziden erfordern. Die Toleranz der Sorte gegenuber CONVISO ist stark ausgepragt, wie die Ergebnisse der Selektivitatsversuche zeigen. Durch die vollstandige Toleranz der Sorte gegenuber CONVISO und dadurch ausbleibenden negativen Herbizideffekten kann das volle Ertragspotenzial ausgeschopft werden. This system consists of an ALS-inhibiting herbicide and a sugar beet variety which is tolerant against the complementary herbicide due to classic breeding mechanisms. The herbicide CONVISO is a combination of the two active ingredients foramsulfuron and thiencarbazonemethyl. Whereas foramsulfuron is the leaf active compound, thiencarbazone-methyl is leaf as well as soil active. The product will be formulated as an oily dispersion (OD). The registration was requested with an application rate of 1 x 1 l/ha or 2 x 0.5 l/ha in ALS-inhibitor tolerant sugar beets. Application should be done from BBCH 10 – 14 of the weeds, especially of Chenopodium album as well as from BBCH 12 – 18 of the sugar beet. The estimated introduction of this system on the German market will be 2018. CONVISO is well active against the most important weeds in sugar beets, including Polygonum and Chenopodium species. Furthermore several difficult to control weeds as Aethusa cynapium and Mercurialis annua will be controlled by CONVISO. The addition of special herbicides to control those difficult weeds will no longer be necessary. The tolerance of the variety against CONVISO is very strong, which will be shown by the results of the weed free selectivity trials. Due to the high tolerance of the variety against CONVISO and the not occurring of negative herbicide effects, the full yield potential can be utilized.
