Abstract

Conversion and Creativity. Spiritual Contamination and Rewriting in the Poems by Vittoria Colonna The article takes into account some particular images in the Rime of Vittoria Colonna. In investigating these images, it focuses on two fundamental aspects: the strong philosophical component that characterizes the Colonnese poetic work and the reformed language with which it may have come into contact. As a first example, the paper considers the use that Colonna makes of the term »palla«. Subsequently some cases are investigated in which the terms »eye« and »sun« refer to philosophical thought, and finally some »pagan« juxtapositions to Old Testament themes are analysed which allow Colonna to devise a monstrum in all respects: a Sun/Hydra.
