Abstract

The width Γ of the ∑N → ΛN conversion for ∑ hyperons in nuclear matter is calculated on the basis of the one-boson exchange model. It turns out that there is a substantial compensation of the contributions of different mesons to the conversion amplitude. As a result, Γ is reduced by roughly a factor of two as compared to the value from the exchange of only a pion. Without taking the Pauli principle into account, we obtain Γ = 15–25 MeV.
