Abstract

: When we want to talk with someone or when we are within a conversation, we must keep our commitment with some principles. The principles of conversation are being used just to keep our conversation regular and orderly arranged. Some philosophers, such as Pual H. Grice, have established some principles for that process. Sometimes, the speaker may violate these principles to convey a specific meaning or to implicate something which stands behind his utterances. This study aims at finding out the effect of Conversational Implicature Instruction in enhancing EFL College Students' Communication and Interaction. The sample of this study is chosen from Iraqi EFL college students (third year students) at Department of English Language in the College of Education for Humanities at Tikrit University. It consists of (60) students for both experimental group and control group. The experimental group consists of (30) students and the control group consists of (30) students too and they were chosen randomly. A web-based implicature test is constructed to be the instrument of the current study. The results showed Iraqi EFL college students' weakness in the understanding of conversational implicature due to their weakness in pragmatic competence according to pre-test results before the application of conversational implicature instruction. The use of conversational implicature instruction enhances the students ability in understanding conversational implicature for communicating and interacting appropriately due to post-test results in favor of experimental group. Some conclusions are drawn based on the obtained results of the current study
