Abstract

A novel scheme for simultaneous transport of multi-level pulse-amplitude modulation (M-PAM) wired baseband signal and multi-band ultra-wideband (MB-UWB) wireless signal over single wavelength is proposed and demonstrated. Because MB-UWB signal has some unique advantages such as flexible center frequency and narrower bandwidth, the available spectrum range for transmiting wired baseband signal is expanded in hybrid services. In addition, M-PAM signal is employed to enhance the bitrate of wired baseband signal that is limited by the available spectrum range. In this letter, converged transmission of 1Gbit/s MB-UWB signal and 10Gbit/s 4-PAM signal over 20-km standard single mode fiber (SSMF) is demonstrated. The proposed approach will greatly promote the transmission ability of WDM-PON network incorporating UWBoF system for broadband wireless access.
