Abstract

In the lay-out for power stations an undesirable consequence would be cloud-droplet fumigation of electrical-switch yards by plumes from nearby cooling towers. The behaviour of the plume from a wet cooling tower, in circumstances typical of strong boundary-layer convection, is calculated using an integralplume model. The results suggest that in eastern Australia, fumigation by convective knock-down is most unlikely from large natural draft towers.
