Abstract

The problem of reducing to a minimum the mass of a convective annular/circular fin at the prescribed magnitude of the heat flux is considered. The limiting case of minimization is obtained at the temperature of the outer edge of the fin differing from the temperature of the environment surrounding. The mass of the ideal fin examined differs but little from the mass of the fin of a triangular profile.
