Abstract

A finite element solution has been obtained for convective diffusion with homogeneous and heterogeneous irreversible reactions in an isothermal parallel plate duct with one well-defined catalytic wall. The results are consistent with known solutions and experimental results for the isothermal parallel plate system with no homogeneous reaction. The results have been used successfully to examine the validity of the plug flow reactor model. Possible applications of the present analysis to heat-transfer phenomena for systems with heats of reaction are discussed.
