Abstract

The effect of horizontal mass flow on convection induced by inclined temperature gradient in a porous layer is studied using the method of small perturbations. The layer is confined between two horizontal, rigid and perfectly conducting solid boundaries. The gravitational field is assumed to vary with distance through the layer. The Galerkin technique is used to investigate the associated eigen system. It is found that the positive and negative values of gravity gradient in the presence of horizontal mass flux and high horizontal temperature gradient advances and delays instability of the system respectively with the transverse rolls as a favourable mode.
