Abstract

By growing animals under managed conditions, aquaculture facilitates the production of seafood of consistent quality and optimization of marketing opportunities. Fish can be grown economically by using formulated feeds that can optimize cost and/or quality considerations and consumer needs. A general industry trend towards achieving efficient harvest with minimal stress produces flesh of optimum quality, and delays biochemical deterioration, allowing very fresh product to be transported and marketed.
