Abstract

The insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-IR) is one of several growth-factor receptors that regulate the proliferation of mammalian cells. However, its ubiquitousness and certain unique aspects of its function make IGF-IR an ideal target for therapeutic interventions against abnormal growth, with very little effect on normal cells.
