Abstract

It is proposed to form periodic structures from solenoids in order to control their microwave frequency dispersion by a magnetic field. It is experimentally shown that, using an external 0.05-T magnetic field, one can change the frequency of fixed effective refractive index of a 2D photonic crystal consisting of solenoids with a factor of 6 GHz T–1. Applying a magnetic field, one can also control the divergence of the microwave radiation generated by a photonic crystal.
