Abstract

The paper presents a methodology for the design of reduced order controllers applied to a benchmark problem focused on “Design and optimisation of restricted complexity controllers” and related to the control of an active suspension. The key point of the methodology is the estimation in closed-loop of a reduced order controller once a nominal controller and a plant model are available. The application emphasizes the importance of the identification in closed-loop for obtaining improved models to be used both for nominal controller redesign and controller reduction. Furthermore for this specific application, the reduction of the identified plant model appears to be a useful step for an initial reduction of the nominal designed controller. Experimental results illustrate the capability of the proposed methodology.
